A day in the life of ... Diamonds in the sky

Chelsea Slater

Our #MeetTheMaker series is well underway with ScrunchyBum last week and 92 degrees the week before. This week we've interviewed the lovely Kirsty, Jewellery maker, designer and owner of Diamonds in the sky...

1. What's the FIRST thing you do when you get up?
After being woken up by my baby boy Theo, The first thing I do is check emails and social media to see what's on the agenda for the day.

2. How do you start your day?
Like most people I have a strong coffee to wake myself up and get myself ready to start jewellery making in my workshop.

3. What inspires you to get going?
I love my job, being creative is what inspires me and I love creating new things each day. It's something I've always wanted to do.

4. Tell us a little bit about your working day?
I start work quite early, usually starting with online orders and customer enquires. The afternoons are usually for me to be creative, creating new pieces to add to Diamond In The Sky's collections. I also research current and upcoming fashion trends and patterns. All of this is done whilst my 5 week old baby boy craves attention, it's not easy but all worth it :)

5. How does one start a jewellery business - do you have any advice for budding entrepreneurs?
I studied Fashion buying at University and always knew I wanted to start my own business. After graduating and working in London within the Fashion industry for several years I decided to set up my own business. Diamond In The Sky was born and has been growing ever since. My advice would be to never give up on your dream and work hard. It took a while but now I am able to make jewellery full time!

6. What do you do to wind down?
I love to chill out, preferably in the sunshine with a large glass of wine.
(Don't we all)

7. What's it like being at REX?
So far we are loving being at Rex, the whole team are really friendly and even provide cocktails at meetings which go down a treat. We had high hopes but didn't expect It to be as good as it has been, our jewellery has been flying out!

8. And finally - what's in store for Diamond in the sky? What can we expect to see next?
Diamond In the Sky is ever growing and will constantly be adding new collections and stockists across the UK and worldwide. We are also designing a brand new sterling Silver collection which will be available soon...
