#SuiteHazenTalks Is a new series to help us get to know all the amazing personalities behind the fantastic brands at REX. Lauren from Suite Hazen has put on her interview hat to discover all the creative brains behind their colourful operations. This quick and quirky Q&A covers all the important stuff plus a few fantastical questions too.
This week Lauren chat's to brand new REX fashion retailer Mabel Doll.
Tell us a little about yourself and brand … how did it all start?
When I 15 years old my teacher made the class write down where we would see ourselves in 10 years time, of course I wanted to be a fashion designer. As a child I even started saving my pennies with a friend, we would save our £1.00 pocket money in the hope that we would have enough money to open a shop when we were older, young and gullible I know! After four years at college, three years at Liverpool John Moores University and two years working in my back bedroom, we finally moved in to our first shop. Mabel Doll was born and is going from strength to strength. We specialise in women's wear, showcasing a feminine and quirky edge to our products.
If your brand were a song what would it be and why?
It would have to be Sandi Thom- Punk Rocker. The words in this song show a very relaxed approach on how life use to be, the relaxed approach symbolises our style in clothes.
What famous person would you like to see wearing your pieces or using your products?
Beyonce, perfect role model in every aspect!
What do you love about Liverpool?
We love the different characters in Liverpool, the dry sense of humour and banter you can have with complete strangers. We love how caring and kind people are, how much history we have as a city, we love the different cultures, the unique buildings and most of all we love the Liverpool style.
What is best vacation you’ve ever taken and where would you like to travel to next?
We love traveling to Portugal, the chilled out atmosphere is exactly what we love after the chaos of our busy work schedule. One place we would love to travel to would have to be Paris.
Do you think unicorns exist?
Yes they just missed Noah’s arch haha!
Where would you go in a time machine?
I would go back to the time when things where much simpler.
" oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
In 77 and 69 revolution was in the air
I was born to late, into a world that doesn't care
oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair"..... Sandi Thom
In your range of products what would you send to the Queen?
A customised swimming costume. She needs to experience Club Ocean!
What does Rex mean to you?
The Internet come to life
